The City of Regina has specific regulations for roadside and portable signs to ensure public safety and orderly advertising. If you are planning to use A-frames, sandwich boards, or mini billboards, you must adhere to the following municipal requirements:
- Permit Mandate: A city-issued permit is required for all portable signs placed on private property or within the public right-of-way. Note that permit fees are a separate expense and are the responsibility of the renter.
- Time Restrictions: There is typically a time limit for these displays, often restricted to 30 consecutive days per year. It is recommended to verify the exact allowed duration with the city.
- Placement and Safety: Signs must not obstruct pedestrian walkways and must maintain a specific required setback from curbs.
- Prohibited Attachments: You are strictly prohibited from attaching signs to public infrastructure, such as light poles, benches, or traffic fixtures.
- Physical Specifications: The sign bylaw defines specific maximum display areas and height limits that must be followed.
Failure to comply with these bylaws can result in penalties. Because permit fees and specific application forms can change, you should consult the City of Regina municipal services website or contact the city directly for the most current rates and requirements before installation.
